New Yorkers have a plethora of sports teams to root for.
In the NFL, there's the Jets or the Giants. Baseball? Mets or Yankees. Hockey? Islanders or Rangers? Basketball? The Knicks and only the Knicks. The Brooklyn Nets, the other New York team, has the unfortunate reputation as the forgotten step-sister amongst NBA fans and New Yorkers alike, but, when looking at recent stats, that doesn't make sense at all.
This season, the Brooklyn Nets have a 42-40 and have the clinched the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference, marking the first time since the 2014-2015 season that they've made the playoffs and had an above .500 season. The Knicks, on the other hand, finished 17-65 record, the worst in the NBA, and missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year.
I went to a Knicks game Sunday, March 30 in a matchup against the Clippers, the LA variant of the forgotten 'step-sister' team. Up 111-99 with four minutes remaining, I thought there was no way for the Knick to drop their lead. To my shock, and to everyone else's expectation, they lost the lead in a manner of thirty seconds.
The Knicks have been terrible for years and haven't sniffed a spot in the finals since 1999. It's a wonder why so many people still bother to come to their games.
